What Inputs Does the Score Use?

Snapchat never publishes exact weights. Our 2026 model approximates the signals most users and reporting describe for Friend Solar System ranking:

• Snaps sent & received per day — photo/video exchanges both ways
• Chats per day — message volume in the 1-on-1 chat
• Reply speed — instant, same day, next day, or rare
• Story replies per week — private replies, not passive views
• Call minutes per week — Snapchat voice/video calls
• Streak days — small consistency bonus only
• Rich media % — real photo/video snaps count more than blank streak snaps
• Muted chat — optional penalty if notifications are muted

Score Weights (How Much Each Signal Matters)

After each signal is scored from 0–100, the engine combines them with these weights:

Reciprocity, Streaks & Mute Penalties

• Reciprocity rule: If you send 50 snaps and get almost none back, the snap portion of the score is cut hard. One-sided spam does not push you toward Mercury.
• Streak bonus: Long streaks add a small boost (up to about +5 points). Streaks help consistency, but they are not the main rank driver.
• Mute penalty: If either side muted the chat, the model subtracts about 18 points — muting usually signals lower engagement priority.

Final formula (simplified): total = (snaps×40% + chat×25% + stories×20% + calls×15%) + streakBonus − mutePenalty, then clamped between 0 and 100.

How Score Becomes a Planet

There are two mapping styles:

A) Single friendship (you only enter one person)

Absolute score bands estimate the planet when you do not know the other seven friends:

B) Multiple friends (true Solar System style)

Enter up to eight friends. Everyone gets an affinity score, then scores are sorted highest → lowest. #1 becomes Mercury, #2 Venus, and so on. This mirrors Snapchat’s idea that ranks are relative — you compete against their other contacts, not against a fixed number of snaps.

Is This the Official Snapchat Algorithm?

No. Snap Inc. does not publish exact Friend Solar System weights. Our calculator is an educational estimate based on publicly discussed signals (two-way snaps, chats, story replies, calls, reciprocity, and recency). Real in-app ranks can still differ because Snapchat uses private data, a rolling 24–48 hour window, and signals we cannot see.

Use the tool to understand what usually moves a planet — not as a guarantee of someone’s exact badge.

Privacy

The calculator runs in your browser. It does not ask for Snapchat passwords, does not scrape Best Friends lists, and does not connect to Snapchat’s servers. You only see results from the numbers you type.
